What now?
Have you ever thought about where the water goes once it hits the bottom of a waterfall? Sounds
like a silly question doesn’t it? That is exactly what I asked myself as I looked at these waterfalls
while visiting my friend in New York. As I stood and took this picture, I began to ponder where people
go when they hit rock bottom. I know that the Lord has allowed me to crash to the bottom far more times
than I would like to admit. He has to remind me pretty often that I am nothing without Him.
The only place to look when you are at the bottom is up. Up to the one who created the water, the hope,
the love, the restoration that we need whenever we feel alone and abandoned.
Trusting that the Lord of the universe is in complete control
of all that exists is so hard to grasp for me. I have strived for most of my life to be the one in control.
Giving up self is one of the toughest things that human beings can do. Man by nature is selfish and
full of sin. Without the Lord being in complete control, people often find themselves in the bottom of
life’s emotional barrel. Feeling the need to control some part of life is the most common reason
that this happens.
Psalm 46:1 says “God is my refuge and strength, a present help in trouble.”NKJV
If you are reading this and feel like all of your
hope has hit the bottom, remember that you are never alone. God loves you no matter what your circumstances
are. Pour your troubles out at His feet. Tell him all of the things that hurt you inside.
Allow Him to carry the heaviness for you. He is a God who hears you and He can touch
your life in ways that will heal the deepest of wounds. Lay your head in His lap and rest in Him. Anita
